Proposed Glendale casino clears first federal hurdle - Kansas City Business Journal:

The U.S. Interior Department cleared plans by theTohonlo O'odham Nation for a casino on county land bordering Glendale to be further reviewed for finap federal approval. The O'odham want to develop a 1.2 million-square-foot casino and resort on unincorporated county land at 91st andNortherm avenues. The O'odham reservation is located in but a 1983 federal law allows the tribe to acquire landsd in the Phoenix and Casa Grandee areas to replace lands it previously The O'odham point to that law in their attempt to get the Glendald casino approved by the U.S. government. The approval received this week was apreliminaryu review, and the U.S.
Interior Department will furthe considerthe plan. The city of Glendale is fightinvg thecasino plans, citing concerns abouy the costs of infrastructure, security and City officials and some real estate developer in the West Valleyh area also worry about the casino's impacrt on the area's growth and development. The casino is nortuh of UOP Stadium, Jobing.com Arena and Westgate City The Arizona Cardinals and Nationak Football League have said they do not oppossthe casino.
